Today is September 30th...congrats, everyone! We've made it through the first month (well, if you don't count those first few days when we were still on break) of the school year! I'm so excited to be your full-time library media specialist this year. This means that I have more time for you and our students, and I want to make sure that our media center staff is providing the support that you need.
This blog is separate from our Scranton Reads blog, because it is just for our teachers. I'll post about once a month to let you know about our library resources and activities, so that you can take full advantage of everything our library media center has to offer. Ready? Here we go!
One of your resources here in the library is...me! Ha! Didn't see that one coming, did you? For those of you who may not know, school library media specialists are librarians as well as certified teachers. We specialize in connecting people with quality information, and then addressing how to assess, and appropriately use that information (in other words, we're pros at teaching information literacy).
I am more than happy to chat with any staff member or student about books suggestions. Beyond that, I love collaborating on lesson planning, co-teaching, and acquiring great new resources to use with our students. If there's a lesson where you feel you need additional support, or simply want to bounce ideas around please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm also an expert on website evaluation, plagiarism, citation, and digital resources and will gladly take on these types of lessons for your students.
Aside from library media, I suppose you should know that my undergraduate degree is in History and that my minor was Language, Literature, and Writing. Yes, I truly am a book and research nerd! As far as books go, my favorite genres are fantasy and historical fiction. See...now you know why I sometimes struggle with suggestions for horror books (and I know you always wanted to know that)!
More to come in our next post, and I promise that it will be about stuff in the library.
